Technical Description

The HM 161.55 experimental set-up consists of two Plexiglass side pieces that are bonded to a base plate with water-resistant adhesive. The plate is attached to the base of the HM 161 Flow Channel using bolts. The unit has two specially shaped protrusions so that the flow is constricted by the set-up on three sides. The flow acceleration resulting from the change in cross-section leads to a measurable drop in the water level using which the flow rate can be determined. The measuring device described here is also used in practice for determining flow rate in channels or rivers.

For the determination of water levels, the use of the level gauge HM 161.52 on the moving instrument carriage HM 161.59 is recommended.
